The Gretsch company also took notice also and asked Fender to drop the use of the name Broadcaster as it was already being used on a drum kit that Gretsch sold. When we purchased this guitar the wiring had been altered and the CRL was newer. We were able to source a correct phenolic center switch with the correct 2 patent numbers and had Master Luthier Joel Wilkins from JW Restoration rewire the pots and pickup selector to stock using a Luxe-Radio kit.
Joel had some original caps and his restoration is spot on.

Since I primarily collect amps by Fender, and guitars by Gibson, Fender, Martin, National, Epiphone, Gretsch and Rickenbacker, I really can’t help them with these other less popular brands. As you have probably noticed, there is plenty of information here to help date the brands that I am interested in. But where does that leave everyone else? Well I’m not one to leave you out in the informational cold, so here’s something that I use quite often in dating amplifiers and electric guitars.
The EIA code on pots indicates the manufacturer and date when they are made. In the s, Fender mainly used potentiometers from the Stackpole brand.
The pickguard, volume and tone knobs, and switch are original; the pickguard screws, strap pins and its screws are original; the jack, jack plate and its screws are original; the bridge and saddles are original; the tremolo arm and bridge cover ashtray are original. Singularly, brilliantly, this guitar shows almost no sign of “chips” on the sides of the body – Go Find Another One that doesn’t. Other than the finish checking completely normal this guitar does show extremely light normal signs of use and wear including an unusual welt adjacent to the treble side of the back plate for which we have no explanation. The guitar shows plenty of finish checking, just about everywhere, but only the lightest indications of normal playing time.
On whole, this happens to be one of the cleanest condition Stratocasters we have ever seen. It is amazing. The tweed original case shows light normal signs of wear — some scratches, a few small cigarette burns, a small nail is right now sticking out near the handle it could be hammered back in I suppose ; the leather ends are a little dry, but overall the case is also remarkable. It would need to be tried out and examined here at our showroom.
Once tried out and approved we could then safely ship it anywhere in the world, but we cannot do so on approval, only on a final sale, non-refundable, non-approval basis. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this might cause. It is well nigh irresistible at:. Sorry, this item has been sold. You may still add it to your want list, and we will contact you if your desired instrument comes in!

My dream to own one of these iconic guitars started the same day I saw the impressive front cover of that amazing design. Also, the neck being mahaogony In other words more clearly, Hog 3 piece neck also means Also, from ’69 to about ’73, it will have a “Pancake” body. Does it have that? A Pancake body is easy to tell, as it would have a thin maple stripe all the way around, being made from two thinner layers sandwhiching a thim maple sheet between them.
If it doesn’t, it’s at least as new as ’73, and still before ‘ From the back it looks like there is a thin strip around the edge, but only looks like a single strip.

Email: billy guitars. I literally get about emails per day and I try to write articles based on what topic was most popular over the past few weeks in this bi-monthly column. This past month I have had at least 30 emails asking about plastic shaft CTS pots for Fender guitars. Originally they were used solely on basses but metal shaft units were used at the same time. I will say that mostly I have seen plastic shaft pots in Precision basses and not Jazz basses which is another strange phenomenon It seems from to was the major period these were used in basses.
